BFGF DESIGN STUDIOS
Eric Pfromm, Christian Schüten
Our studies at the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HfbK) enabled us to develop the fundamental ideas of our discourse on design. Distinguished experts including Dieter Rams and Peter Raake guided us during that time.
We think of design as a process involving many different notions instead of a linear process that results in one particular style. In effect, we challenge ourselves on a daily basis to evolve our idea of design.
During our academic studies at the HfbK different collaborations were established and 1996 Büro für Gestaltungsfragen was born.
In 2001 BFGF, Büro für Gestaltungsfragen was founded by five industrial designers as equitable partners.
Since 2009 the BFGF DESIGN STUDIOS partnership consist of Gerrit Kuhn, Sebastian Mends-Cole, Eric Pfromm, and Christian Schüten.
Our company is located at a former industrial site right in the heart of the lively neighbourhood Schanzenviertel, Hamburg. Once home to the manufacturing site of Aristo, reknown maker of abaci, the building now houses our offices next to an eclectic mix of graphic designers, photographers, movie producers, copywriters, yogis, and internet whizzes.
Eric Pfromm born 1970 in Winterthur (Switzerland) grew up in Kassel (Germany). 1998 he graduated in industrial design on the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HfbK) mentored by Dieter Rams and Ralph Sommer. After working two years in Köln (Germany) for ag4 mediatecture company for clients like Deutsche Bahn he moved back to Hamburg and to be cofounder of BFGF in 2001.
Christian Schüten was born 1964 in Vorst near Krefeld (Germany) close to the dutch border. After his graduation in industrial design on the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HfbK) in1996 he started Büro für Gestaltungsfragen with two fellow alumni. From 1997 to 1999 Christian Schüten was postgraduate student of a study course called visual communication on the HfbK Hamburg.
Both of them have been doing several teaching activities on universities as well as lectures on design. This year they were certified to consult in Cradle-to-Cradle® Design Processes.
Come and visit us Sunday during the Open Design Day at Praediniussingel 59!
